Mikrotik Installation on VMWare

Are you people like me? Want to learn something but facility impede your desire . I was searching on Google and find awesome information on Rhesa Mahendra’s Blog. Then I bring that information into my blog here. So, almost all of information inhere is copas (copy and paste) from that blog. Please give me apologize Mr. Rhesa. Hope it’s OK to you coz I put your link here anyway. Even I use my friend’s computer to test this tips, coz mine is just get fever now. So I can’t force him to do hard working at the moment. Oh my God…it’s ashamed on me huh? haha…

OK lets get started. I assume that you have VMWare installed on your computer.

1. Download mikrotik iso here

2. Run VMWare and select new virtual machine..

3. Then select typical

4. Select Linux on “Guest operating system” section and Other Linux on “Version” section.

5. Choose your preferable name and location to install your Mikrotik OS

6. Select “Use bridged networking”

7. Specify disk size. Minimum requirement for Mikrotik is 0,5 GB.

8. Then you will guide into this screenshot.

9. Remove harddisk (SCSI type) coz we will use IDE harddisk type. Previously I use SCSI type and fail. That’s the only reason why we have to use IDE harddisk.

10. Click “Add…” button and you’ll get this screenshot.

11. Select Hard Disk.

12. Select “Create Virtual Disk”.

13. Keep in mind!!! Use IDE harddisk, not SCSI.

14. Choose your preferable name.

15. Here we go. You will see disk creating process

16. You find that your Hard Disk type is IDE now.

17. Now we need gateway so that the new computer we’ve made can be use as a router. Then we have to add a hardware called ethernet adapters.

18. Select bridge networking.

19. You will see this if all the process done right.

20. One more thing that you need to set up. You’ve to make the CD Rom to call ISO file you’ve download previously. Double click on CD Rom, then select “Use ISO Image”.

21. It’s ready to start your new computer now. Click the play button on the top of the screen bellow menu bar.

22. You’ll see application can be installed on your virtual computer. Press ‘A’ button on your keyboard to install all application.

23. Press ‘I’ button to install. Wait for approx 15 minutes and then press “Enter” to reboot.

24. You will see this after reboot:

password : (leave it blank)

25. Press ‘Y’ to read the license and press ‘q’ to quit.

Traaataaa….

Yess…finally I have a new computer with Mikrotik installed in it. Haha…but it’s still virtual, you know that. Now you can test Mikrotik’s commands as an admin ^_^.
